New Delhi: 11 schools run by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for the gifted children do not have single post for either Urdu or Punjabi teacher. This information came to light through Right to Information (RTI) filed by National Secretary of the Welfare Party of India, SQR Ilyas, a copy of which is available with TCN.
NDMC runs 7 Senior Secondary, one middle and three Primary Navyug schools under Navyug School Education Society for the gifted children of the weaker section of the society.
According to informations obtained through RTI, there are sanctioned posts for 350 teachers in these 11 Navyug schools. However, 80 posts are still vacant.
Besides, there are 18 Primary Schools, 6 Middle and 6 secondary schools spread over NDMC area. In addition to this 8 Senior Secondary Schools are also run by NDMC. There are 18 Nursery Schools and in 12 Schools Nursery Sections are attached. Taken together all these schools have 738 teaching posts, but only 618 teachers are employed at the moment. There is thus still shortage of 120 teachers in all these schools.
There are 64 posts for Urdu teachers in these schools, but even in this 11 posts are vacant. Its not just the Urdu language which is suffering from government’s apathy, but even the Punjabi language.
According to information revealed through RTI, there are only two sanctioned posts for Punjabi language teachers.
WPI Secretary SQR Ilyas said, “If students will not learn Urdu at primary and secondary level, how can we expect them to take up Urdu at higher level?” Pointing towards ‘institutional apathy,’ he demanded that all vacant posts should be filled immediately, that would not only help those with knowdlege of Urdu find jobs, but also allow young students opportunity to learn the language.
