Two GRP men nabbed in Bengal for abduction

By IANS,

Kolkata: Three people, including two constables of the Government Railway Police (GRP), were arrested here Thursday for their alleged involvement in human trafficking, abduction and extortion bid, an official said.

A senior GRP officer said the action followed allegations from a woman that she was lured to Chhattisgarh’s Raipur with the promise of a job, but managed to flee on realising that she was being forced into sex-trade.

However, the accused continued to torment her in Kolkata.

The woman’s husband Wednesday got a telephone call from one of the accused who threatened the couple that some pictures of the woman were with them and asked for Rs.3 lakh. “They asked us to meet them,” the officer said.

The woman’s husband was abducted by the two as a collateral and she was asked to arrange for the money and come to the GRP’s special operations group office at Sealdah station to get back her husband.

The woman went to police who asked her to go to the GRP office. A team of Kolkata Police followed her and caught the accused.

A local television channel captured a part of the operation on camera as an expose.

The GRP constables have been placed under suspension.

“We have completed departmental proceedings against the accused. A complaint has been registered,” said a senior GRP officer.
