Pakistan’s lower house dissolved

By IANS,

Islamabad: Pakistan’s lower house of parliament, the National Assembly, was dissolved at midnight Saturday on completion of its five-year constitutional term, an official announcement said.

The ministry of parliamentary affairs issued a notification about the dissolution of the 342-member National Assembly, Xinhua reported.

A separate notification for the dissolution of the cabinet will also be issued.

It is for the first time in Pakistan’s 66-year history that the National Assembly completed its five-year tenure.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and the chief ministers of four provinces agreed Saturday to hold elections of the national and provincial assemblies on the same day.
