Not seen final format of Sri Lanka resolution yet: Government

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Indian government has not yet seen the final format of the proposed resolution at the UN Human Rights Council against Sri Lanka, the external affairs ministry said Monday.

“We will cross the bridge when it comes. We have not seen the final format,” ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin told reporters here.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam had told a TV channel Monday that the resolution against his country was “uncalled for” and the international community should not get involved in the country.

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) constituent DMK Sunday threatened to pull out of the government if it did not take steps to bring amendments to the US-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka in the UNHRC.

Sri Lanka is under attack over the death of a large number of Tamil civilians during the final stages of the war that crushed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2009.
