AMU adds Kanpur and Malappuram to its list of Distance Education study centres

Aligarh: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University has approved the establishment of another two Study Centres of the Distance Education Centre of AMU. With the approval of two new centres, list of study centres for distance education expands to thirty-three.

The Vice Chancellor, on the recommendation of the Director, Centre for Distance Education and on the basis of inspection report by the visiting team (UP), approved the establishment of these centres at the X-C-Lent Campus, Hartinder Nagar, Kanpur and Markazutharbivathil Islamiyya, Karthala, Malappuram (Kerala).

AMU offers 10+2, BA and PG courses in Journalism among other courses through distance-education.

The Director of the Centre, Dr. Nafees A. Ansari said that the above approval is without any financial commitment on the part of the University. He further clarified that the study centres have to abide by the rules and regulations of the Centre. He said that the Distance Education Centres’ auxiliary bodies are playing important role in spreading the educational benefits to the marginalized section of the society. He said that with this, 33 centres have been established in 12 states so far while about 130 requests for establishing such centres in the remaining states are pending final report of the visiting team.

Dr. Ansari said that in order to maintain the standard of teaching, approval to the new centres are given after a minute inspection of infrastructure and other essential criteria of the applicant institutions as per the norms of the University.

Dr. Ansari said that the examination of various courses of the Centre have been brought to schedule and the centre is committed to conduct the 2012-13 in time and as per the schedule.

The Centre for Distance Education has recently conducted several training programmes for the non-teaching staff of the University and students. He said that the centre is organizing a Workshop for teachers and resource persons who are involved in creating lesson plans and preparing study material for various courses. He said the workshop will be organized on March 21-22, 2013.
