Man using stolen credit card data for online shopping arrested

By IANS,

New Delhi : A 23-year-old man was arrested for cheating various people of Rs.5 lakh by using their credit card data for online shopping, said police Monday.

Sandeep Kumar Singh, of Madhubani in Bihar, was arrested from central Delhi’s Sadipur area Sunday.

Some electronic goods bought by him through online sites with stolen data of credit cards of some SBI customers were also recovered from him, police said.

Police acted on a complaint by Mukesh Giri, assistant manager, SBI Cards Fraud Control Unit, regarding the misuse of credit cards of some customers.

Giri approached police after some SBI customers complained that they were being charged for online shopping when they had not done so.

“Two of the online orders were to be delivered to the accused by an online merchant. A trap was laid and the accused was arrested,” said Additional Commissioner of Police D.C. Srivastava.

The accused said that he had got the date when he worked as a sales executive in some Delhi-based telemarketing companies during 2010-12.

“He had collected details of several SBI credit card holders. On the basis of the details, he would contact the customers and on the pretext of selling them discounted holidays packages, he used to collect their personal details and CUV numbers,” said Srivastava.
