New Delhi: On the plea of the NGO fighting for the rights of the people, Jan Adhikar Manch, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has decided to postpone the compulsory requirement of the AADHAR card in applying for merit cum means based post-metric scholarships for the year 2013-14 given to children from minorities’ communities.
Jan Adhikar Manch had made a representation to the ministry of minority affairs, and its Coordinator Mujahid Nafees had personally met with the minority affairs minister K Rehman Khan urging him to reconsider the government’s decision.
The scholarship targets minority students from underprivileged class, most of whom still do not have the AADHAR card and hence the scheme should be postponed, argues Coordinator of Jan Adhikar Manch, Mujahid Nafees, adding “This is a glorious victory of the Jan Adhikar Manch, beneficial to the students off minority communities all over India.”
The ministry has, however, added that the same may be compulsory, from the next session.
