Guwahati: The people of at least 12 villages at Besharbari area in Chirang district in Assam are scared to live at their respective areas after the state government decided to withdraw the security forces after the violence broke out at Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) last year.
They are scared that the incidents might reoccur if there is no security personnel and they have even submitted memorandum to district administration and police to reconsider the decision of withdrawing the security personnel from the area.
The area which is under Aamguri police station is surrounded by Bodo villages and there is a river on the other side. “We can sense that at any time anti-social elements can create trouble taking the opportunity of the absence of security personnel. If it happens it will be very unfortunate as we are requesting the authority to pay heed to us and think of the safety and security of the area,” a villager told TCN.
On Monday, a team of delegates from the area will meet Assam DGP Jayanta Narayan Choudhury to brief him regarding the issue and they will also submit him a written memorandum.
According to sources, the security personnel which were deployed over the area have been shifted to take control of the situation in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Area ahead of the council elections.
The violence which took place last year between the Muslims and Bodos has witnessed lakhs of people lost their homes and properties. Besides, several people were killed during the clash.
