Legal notice issued to 99acres on discriminatory housing ads

    Hyderabad: Campaign generated on social media over discriminatory housing advertisements against Muslims on 99acres.com a leading property dealer website prompted regret from its founders and assurance to moderate discriminatory content in the future.

    But a practicing advocate in Hyderabad Gulam Rabbani has now sent a legal notice to Managing Director of Info Edge, Company that controls 99acres to make a public apology to Muslim community and to filter similar discriminatory content from the website.

    Advocate, in his legal notice, giving reference to two particular advertisements published on the website clearly mentioning ‘No Muslim’, stated that these kind of advertisements has hurt his religious sentiment and of whole Muslim community at large.

    A 15 days’ time period is given to 99acres to remove all the discriminatory content from the website failing which legal notice warned initiation of proceedings in competent court to claim damages.

    Advocate Ghulam Rabbani acknowledges that 99acres did regret listing of discriminatory ads, but he said aim behind this legal action is to make them to respond to notice publicly, so to make that any given assurance binding for the company in future.
