New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Wednesday disposed of a plea by the police seeking cancellation of interim bail granted to Aruna Chadha, an aide of former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, accused of abetting the suicide of a former air hostess.
Justice J.R. Midha disposed of the police plea saying the term of interim bail will expire Nov 15 and she has not sought further extension of interim bail till now. So no useful purpose will serve in exceeding the proceedings.
Kanda and his aide Chadha are accused of abetting the suicide of a 23-year-old airline hostess. The two have denied the allegations. The suicide victim left behind a note accusing Kanda and Chadha of harassing her. She committed suicide on the night of Aug 4-5, 2012.
On Nov 15, the trial court will also decide the regular bail plea of Chadha.
Police had moved the high court challenging the trial court’s order granting her interim bail.
Chadha is out on interim bail till Nov 15 to take care of her minor daughter and ailing parents.
The court said: “The trial court has reserved the order on regular bail plea of Aruna Chadha for Nov 15. The interim bail period is expiring Nov 15 also and respondent (Chadha) has not sought further extension of interim bail till now.”
“Since the substantial period of interim bail is almost over as the trial court heard the regular bail application. The interim bail was granted for a limited period to respondent who is a single mother and has a daughter aged nine years and is staying away from her since she was in custody for the last one year. No useful purpose will serve in exceeding this case,” the court said in its order.
Kanda has been charged with rape, abetment to rape as well as suicide, criminal conspiracy and forgery and under the IT Act for hacking computers and sending offensive or false messages.
He was arrested Aug 18, 2012 after he surrendered to Delhi Police, while Chadha was arrested Aug 8 last year.
