Goa MP for joint efforts on errant foreigners’ deportation

    Panaji : The state and central government together should work out a mechanism to deport errant foreign nationals living in Goa, Congress MP Francisco Sardinha said here Monday.

    “Whoever commits crime or is illegally staying without documents the state and central government should jointly take cognizance. The deportation should be quick,” Sardinha told reporters at the state Congress headquarters.

    The opposition here has demanded a judicial probe into the role of foreigners involved in drug trade.

    The state government started a drive against foreigners illegally staying in Goa after a public conflict between Nigerians and the locals, following the murder of a Nigerian national last month.

    The authorities reaction to the conflict has been described as racist by the Nigerian diplomat who had threatened of a backlash against Indians in Nigeria.
