Obama calls Netanyahu on Iran n-deal

    Washington: US President Barack Obama called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday to discuss the P5+1’s first step agreement with Iran regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme, according to a White House statement.

    During the phone call, both leaders “reaffirmed their shared goal of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon”.

    Obama assured Netanyahu that “the P5+1 will use the months ahead to pursue a lasting, peaceful, and comprehensive solution that would resolve the international community’s concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear programme”, Xinhua reported.

    The US president also told Netanyahu that he wants the US and Israel to begin consultations immediately regarding their effort to negotiate such a comprehensive solution.

    On Sunday morning, after intensive negotiations, the P5+1 group, namely Britain, China, France, Russia and the US plus Germany, and Iran reached a first-step agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.
