Ghaziabad: The premises of the special CBI court were Tuesday swarming with eager local residents keen to know the quantum of punishment in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case.
TV news channels vans had started lining up at the venue early morning to ensure vantage positions.
The arguments on the quantum of punishment were to start in the morning but got delayed as Aarushi’s mother Nupur Talwar complained of uneasiness while she was in Dasna jail.
Nupur Talwar along with her husband Rajesh Talwar, both dentists, were Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by the special CBI court for murdering their teenaged daughter and their domestic help Hemraj at their home in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida.
After Nupur Talwar complained of uneasiness, she was treated by doctors and brought to court along with Rajesh Talwar around 2 p.m.
By then, there was a long queue of outdoor broadcast vans to cover the judgment in the murder case that evoked nationwide curiosity. A couple of foreign journalists were also seen.
As the arguments began around 2.30 p.m., people gathered outside the court eager to know the quantum of punishment awarded to the couple.
Mahesh Jain, a government employee, said he was curious about the case.
“I came here to see the developments for myself. There is a sense of disbelief about the crime as it involved parents, their child and a domestic help,” he said.
Sanjay, a groundnut vendor who was drawn to the court premises by the crowd, said he did good business.
“I sell groundnuts in buses. But when I saw a large number of people standing, I came here,” Sanjay told IANS.
After the court announced the quantum of punishment, the Talwar couple were taken back to Dasna jail.
