Punjab man kills four of family, self

    Chandigarh: Upset over a property dispute, a man shot dead his wife and three children before committing suicide in Punjab’s Ferozepur town, police said Tuesday.

    The incident took place late Monday night in Toori bazaar area of the town, 280 km from here, police officials said.

    The man, Pankaj Gakhar, 36, was reportedly drunk when he had an argument with his wife and other family members. In anger, he took out his .12 bore rifle and shot dead his wife. Later, he shot his three children, all aged below 10 years.

    The victims included a one and a half month old toddler son.

    He even attacked his mother with the rifle butt before killing others. Police said that the victims died on the spot.

    Gakhar later killed himself with the same weapon.

    Neighbours rushed into the house through the roof as all doors were locked.

    “We are investigating the incident. The victims were cremated today (Tuesday),” a police officer said.
