New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia launched the innovative Communicative English Programme (CEP – Third Edition) and Self Enrichment Programme (SEP – Nikhar) recently for the students of the University, extending to them a life-changing opportunity.
These two programmes – i.e. Communicative English Programme and Self Enrichment Programme – have been started especially for those who represent socially and economically marginalized sections of our society who have had no formal training in the English Language and often get treated as “English outcasts”.
The Communicative English Programme, conceived by former Vice Chancellor Shri Najeeb Jung and Self Enrichment Programme, conceived by the current Vice Chancellor Prof S M Sajid, are envisioned to empower and integrate these students in the mainstream.
The Communicative English Programme and Self Enrichment Programme, in its new avatar, not only addresses the linguistic needs of the students with respect to training in English language but also takes care of other life-skills which are imperative for students, as they are the ones who would be contributing to nation-building with sensitivity and awareness.
Around 140 students have registered for this stand-alone course independent of credit requirement at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
The course focuses on intense interaction in English, both in formal and informal situations. It aims at enabling students to communicate effectively and appropriately in a variety of real-life situations. Through these courses, students would feel confident to interact in English, both in the classroom and outside it.
In addition, skills, in respect of management, leadership, negotiation, creative thinking, decision-making, and managing demands from diverse interpersonal relationship would also be imparted to them.
A press statement by the university said that Jamia Millia Islamia offers this unique programme with the view to empower those who have got deprived of such an exposure. The university believes that with these inputs these students, who are the future of the country, will emerge as strong, confident young minds ready to brace the world.
