Jerusalem: The Israel Defence Force (IDF) Monday boosted its deployment in the West Bank city of Hebron, a day after a Palestinian shooter killed an Israeli soldier, a spokesperson for the IDF said.
A curfew imposed on Hebron last night right after the shooting was lifted Monday morning, Xinhua reported citing the spokesperson.
“Right now, scans for the terrorist are narrowing in the inner neighbourhood of Hebron,” the spokesperson added.
An emergency meeting called by Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon would be held late Monday during which the officials would discuss the Israeli response to the Sunday’s killing of Tomer Hazan whose body was found near Qalqiliya city in northern West Bank.
Hazan was abducted and killed by Nedal Amar, a Palestinian, who intended to trade his body for his brother who serves a 30-year sentence for his involvement in attacks against Israeli citizens.
Thousands of Jewish visitors and worshipers came to Hebron Monday to mark the Jewish holiday of Sukhot. A large number of IDF and border police troops are securing the event.
