MIM candidates list clears expansion plans, has 3 non-Muslims for Lok Sabha

Hyderabad: Majlis-e-Itehadul Muslimeen (MIM) second and third list of candidates have finally lifted the curtains from party’s expansion plans. Second list released on Friday and third list on Saturday by party president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi contains 3 parliamentary and 11 assembly segments. All the three Lok Sabha candidates are non-Muslims.

From Malkajgiri Lok Sabha segment mainly consisted of suburban parts of Hyderabad party has fielded Sridhar Dharani kota. Constituency is currently represented by Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana and has decisive number of Andhra settler votes. MIM which has opposed separate Telangana state and even vowed on several occasions to protect the settler community in midst of TRS threats is expecting favourable mandate from settler community. Malkagiri seat also has 50,000 Muslim votes, MIM’s traditional vote bank.

In the neighbouring Nalgonda district MIM has fielded Motilal from Bhongir parliamentary seat currently represented by powerful congress politician Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy.

With a well-planned strategy to evolve a base in the divided Andhra Pradesh party is fielding eight candidates alone in Rayalseema region which has largest concentration of Muslim population in a united Andhra Pradesh.

In Kurnool district party has fielded Venkata Narayana Reddy from Nandyal Lok Sabha seat and Shaik Karimullah from Nandyal town Assembly seat.

Anantapur district is where Majlis is aiming big with fielding five candidates. Mahbub Basha will be contesting from Guntakal Assembly seat, Vara Prasad from Singanamala Assembly seat, Mohammad Ali from Anantapur town, Hadi Shaukat Ali from Hindupur and C.M. Ilyas from Kadiri Assembly seat.

Chittor district bordering Tamil Nadu will have MIM candidate Mohammad Ali Pathan from Madanapalle Assembly seat.

From Kadappa district bastion of YSR Congress MIM leader Qader Basha will be fighting from Muslim dominated Rayachoti Assembly seat.

In costal Andhra region party has fielded three candidates from Guntur district in its third list. Basheer Ahmed from Guntur west, Sheikh Bajit Badshah from Guntur east constituency and Shaik Abdul Khadar from Ponnur Assembly constituency are MIM candidates.

MIM has so far announced candidates for 18 assembly and 4 parliamentary seats. In the first list MIM announced 7 names for its sitting assembly seats in Hyderabad, in its fourth list expected soon, party will be announcing some more candidates from Hyderabad city and Telangana districts.

In 2009 elections, majlis had won 7 assembly seats and one parliament seat from Hyderabad city in united Andhra Pradesh. MIM is now making all out efforts to increase its tally so to have a presence in both Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh.
