Kolkata : Bollywood singer and BJP candidate from West Bengal’s Asansol Lok Sabha constituency Babul Supriyo was Tuesday granted bail after he surrendered in a court in connection with a case under the National Highways Act.
“Supriyo today (Tuesday) surrendered in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Asansol) A. Maiti in connection with a case under the National Highways Act. He was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs.1500,” said Supriyo’s counsel R. Singh.
Supriyo was earlier served summons after complaints against him were registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act and the National Highways Act.
He appeared before police April 17 in connection to the complaints made under the Arms Act and the IPC.
The complaints were made April 12 by Trinamool Congress Raniganj block president Senapati Mandal.
The singer has also filed a complaint accusing Mandal and his associates of heckling him and assaulting his party workers during a campaign in Raniganj city in Burdwan district.
Mandal and the other accused were granted bail.
