Cairo: Twenty tunnels that were being used for smuggling have been destroyed in Egypt, a military spokesman said.
These tunnels in the Sinai Peninsula were destroyed by the Egyptian Army Friday, spokesman Mohamed Samir said.
A total of 1,659 such tunnels have been destroyed since the army began its operations in Sinai, MENA news agency reported.
Two machine guns and eight mortar shells were seized during the security campaign, the spokesman added.
