New Delhi: A Sessions Court in Tis Hazari, Delhi, will commence hearing final arguments in the case of Hashimpura PAC killings of Muslim men on August 13. After 27 years, the case has reached the final stage.
In May 1987, during the course of communal riots, from Mohalla Hashimpura in Meerut, UP, over 42 Muslim men were abducted, by the PAC- Provinical Armed Constabulary, in a truck, taken to Gang Nahar and Hindon Canal, shot dead and their bodies thrown in the canal.
5 men injured by bullet wounds survived to tell the tale to the world and the court. 19 men of C Platoon of 41st Vahini PAC, were charged with these killings.
The CBCID through its shoddy and partisan investigation and the legal system have dragged this trial, of the worst custodial, communal killings for 27 years.
This delay can only benefit the accused PAC men, with witnesses particularly the Investigating Officers dead, original FIRs and MLCs destroyed. Incidentally the accused PAC men, who are being prosecuted for mass murder, all continue to be in service as gun wielding law enforcement officers, in UP.
“The families of the victims of Hashimpura will make the trek to Tis Hazari Court on 13th August once again, to see if the court of law can discern the truth and provide justice, or will this be another bloody milestone in the archive of India’s history of injustices,” wrote Vrinda Grover, lawyer for Hashimpura victims, on her Facebook.
