Retain the golden glory of Hyderabad football: Victor Amalraj

Hyderabad: International footballer Victor Amalraj expressed hope that the young footballers of Hyderabad will retain the golden glory and winning legacy of city’s footballers.

Speaking at the grand inauguration of the Association of ICSE & ISC Schools, Telangana and A.P region XXIII A.P. Regional Sports Meet 2014 at Nasr Boys School (GachiBowli) on Wednesday morning, Mr Amalraj recollected India’s 4th position win in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics where 9 footballers from Hyderabad alone represented India while 7 players from the city played for the Indian football team in 1960 Olympics.

He said football is the most popular game after cricket citing the growing prominence and awareness of EPL, La Liga Spanish league and Bundesliga German league amongst the young sports aficionados in the city.

Junior teams comprising of 22 ICSE schools and senior schools comprising 7 ISC Schools are participating in the 6-day sports event hosted by Nasr School (Boys). The event will witness inter-school regional hockey and football matches.

Earlier, Mr. Amalraj freed a release dove while participating students performed march past to the sound of bugles that ceremonially marked the grand inauguration of the Sports meet.
