Hyderabad: Eminent academic and activist Prof Rehana Sultana, Dean, School of Arts & Social Sciences, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness.
She was 58.

Prof Rehana was associated with the University right from its early days. She contributed in the growth of the institution immensely in various capacities. She was instrumental in establishing the Centre for Women Studies, which she headed in addition to the Department of Women Education, a release from MANUU said.
She was a champion of women’s cause. Before joining the University, she had established an educational society almost thirty years ago in the old city, primarily focusing on girls’ education.
She was also associated with many NGOs including Civil Liberties, Cova and Smita. She received various awards in recognition of her outstanding services.
Prof Mohammad Miyan, Vice-Chancellor; Dr Khwaja M Shahid, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Prof S M Rahmatullah, registrar expressed deep condolences on her demise and described her death as an irreparable loss for MANUU, MANUU public relations officer Abid Abdul Wasay said in the release.
