Amman : Jordan executed 11 men convicted of murder Sunday, ending an eight-year ban on death penalty in the country, media reported.
“Eleven criminals convicted in different cases of murder were executed at dawn,” the state-run Petra news agency quoted the Jordanian interior ministry as saying, according to Xinhua. All those convicted were Jordanians.
There have been several calls recently in Jordan to lift the ban on death penalty to put an end to increasing crime.
A number of countries in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, continue to impose death penalty for serious crimes.
