New Delhi: Delhi Police Thursday launched a mobile and web application service to enable people report about their lost articles like mobile phones, passports and driving licenses without having to go to the police station.
The service, launched by union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, will help people to inform police about their lost articles and get the immediate feedback within a few minutes.
Shinde said the application was one of the friendly steps between Delhi Police and public.
“There are several occasions when people are confused to go to the police station to lodge the complaint of their lost articles. With the help of this application, people who lost their articles can easily lodge their complaints while travelling or at home,” Shinde said.
He said it was a historical step taken by Delhi Police.
Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said it will be called “lost report” service.
“People could avail this service by simply downloading a software on their mobile phones or they can use Delhi Police website to register the lost report. They would get a feedback on their mobile phones or email within a few minutes,” Bassi said.
“They can get it printed and use it as a document proof of the lost article,” he added.
He also said that people need not to collect the non-cognisable report of the lost item from the police station.
As per the law, loss of an item is a non-cognisable offence and when reported to police, needs to be acknowledged through a non-cognisable report issued by a police station.
The mobile users will have to download this application from ‘Google Play Store’ before lodging the complaint, while the internet users will have to visit Delhi Police website www.delhipolice.com, where this application is already present, Bassi added.
