Chennai: Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath staged a massive Jail Bharo across the state pressing to implement 10 per cent reservation for Muslims in Central and 7 % State government in education and employment sectors.
TNTJ had called for Jail filling protest however as the crowd turned to be huge police dropped the plan of arresting the Muslims as they didn’t have enough vehicles or place to accommodate protestors in prison.
Protests were held at Chennai, Coimbatore ,Tiruchi , Tirunelveli, Pondichery , Karaikkal and Mumbai.
Jamath’s President Moulavi P.Zainul Abedeen headed the protest at Chennai and delivered a clear message to state and central government “Grant reservation else lose our votes”. He also said we sill support party who gives us reservation as per Justice Ranganath Misra report.
The Same message was proclaimed by all other leaders who headed demonstration from Coimbatore, Tiruchi , Tirunelveli, Pondicherry , Karaikkal and Mumbai.
State general Secretary Moulavi Rahamatullah led the massive demonstration at Coimbatore. He thanked all Muslim Jamaths and organisation for their overwhelming support.
Moulavi Fakeer Mohammed Althafi led the protest at Trichy, The Protest spot was the same where Narendra Modi’s started his election campaign in Tamil Nadu. The crowd was double than the crowd turned for the prime ministerial candidate of a national party.
In Tirunelveli, people were queued up for more than 4 kms and also Muslims from neighbour state kerala joined the protest. TNTJ’s chair person Moulavi Shamsul Luha delivered a speech and demanded the government to pass the reservation. Elementary school association has announced holiday at tirunelveli and shops at town remained shut.
Lakhs of Muslims Including men, women, children’s, and even handicapped across the state participated in the protest and raised slogans demanding reservation.
TNTJ General body meeting will be on 23rd February to decide its final lok shaba election stand and it will support ruling ADMK and congress only if parties keep up their earlier promise and implement reservation as per commission reports tabled.
