New Delhi: Call it the trickle-down effect of Aam Aadmi party (AAP), on Wednesday residents of Jamia Nagar in Delhi woke up to a dharna right opposite the Batla House bus stand. The protesters demanded construction of sewerage, road, and other basic amenities.
Amanatullah Khan, local LJP leader, who recently contested the Assembly elections also, sat on dharna from morning 9 AM till evening along with his supporters demanding better road and sewerage.
Right before the Assembly election Congress government had announced Rs 5 crore sewerage project and work too had begun. Many of the streets and by lanes were dug up for the work. Now that the government has changed, the work seems to have taken a retreat.
The immediate anger of the Okhla residents’ welfare association was the half done work of sewerage of the main road leading to Okhla market, that cause over flow of drainage.
Meanwhile, dharna on the main road, caused traffic snarl full day across Jamia campus that had mixed reactions amongst locals. While some supported the cause, many believed that they should not block the arterial road.
