Indian national acquitted of drug trafficking charge

Kuala Lumpur : A court in Malaysia has acquitted an Indian national of a drug trafficking charge, media reported Wednesday.

Justice Rhodzariah Bujang cleared Ramasamy Mahendran, 43, of the charge framed against him, the Borneo Post reported.

The judge ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case.

Ramasamy was charged with allegedly possessing 6.073 gm of ketamine.

He was arrested at the Kuching International Airport arrival hall Feb 22 last year.

Drug trafficking in Malaysia may attract up to death penalty.

A total of seven prosecution witnesses were called to testify at the trial.

Ramasamy had been remanded in prison since Feb 23 last year as the offence is non-bailable.
