Amravati (Maharashtra) : Police have registered a complaint against Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP Anandrao Adsul and two others for abusing and threatening NCP candidate and actress Navneet Kaur-Rana, an official said here Sunday.
“We have lodged offences pertaining to threats, using foul language, abuse in the name of caste and character,” said an official of Gadge Nagar police station.
When contacted, the 67-year-old Adsul denied the charges levelled by Kaur-Rana.
“All this is deliberate. She wants to gain public sympathy… not maintaining public standards and made false allegations against me,” Adsul told IANS.
Kaur-Rana, 27, a well-known southern film actress and model, said she was harassed by Adsul and his supporters since the past two months after it became evident that she would be contesting against him in the Lok Sabha elections on a Nationalist Congress Party ticket.
“This morning, as I was sitting in the police station and registering my complaint, they called and threatened me that if I filled my election nomination form, that would be the last day of my life,” Kaur-Rana, wife of Ravi Rana, Independent legislator from Badnera town (Amravati), told IANS.
Kaur-Rana said she and Adsul were part of a TV interview being shot in a local bus Sunday morning.
“When he made some vague statements about his work in the constituency in the past five years, I requested him to be more specific. Enraged at this, he started using foul language and questioned my character,” she said.
In the past, Kaur-Rana had alleged that some miscreants had posted obscene photos of her on various social networking websites to malign her reputation before the elections.
Even on other private and public fora, she accused Adsul and his supporters of vilifying her in many ways and said “they seem scared after my entry into the electoral fray”.
Police said they are investigating the matter.
Kaur-Rana has acted in several Kannada and Telugu films. She married legislator Rana in 2011.
