Jammu: One woman was killed and three others seriously injured in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district Monday, an official statement said.
“One person was killed and three seriously injured in a landslide after heavy rainfall at Daman (Dharmari) village in Mahore sub-division of Reasi district today (Monday) triggered a landslide there,” said the statement.
Nazia Akhter, 18, died on the spot while Puja Devi, Jameela Begum and Jan Begum were injured. They were taken to the district hospital in Reasi.
The statement said that the Reasi deputy commissioner Reasi has provided financial relief of Rs.1.5 lakh to the family of Akhter and Rs.5,000 each to the injured.
It also said that the sub-divisional magistrate, Mahore, has been directed to lodge an FIR in the matter and enquire if there is any negligence on part of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) as the area faces recurrent landslides and the BRO is responsible for maintaining the road in the area where the landslide has occurred.
