CLMC condemned Maulana Qavi’s arrest by Gujarat police

Hyderabad: The Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee based in Hyderabad released a statement express[ing] its anguish on March 24, 2014 of the arrest of the Muslim scholar Moulana Abdul Qavi, citing the arrest as a big joke carried out by anti-Muslim and fascist forces. The release appeals to the international community to come forward and restore the human rights and civil liberties of Muslims.

Hyderabadi-based Islamic theologian Moulana Abdul Qavi, director of Jamia Ashraf-ul-Uloom was arrested on Sunday, March 23, for alleged involvement in plot to avenge the 2002 Godhra riots. He is also being accused of sending Muslim youth from Gujarat to Pakistan to training camps. Protests have taken place in Hyderabad since the arrest.

The CLMC adds that Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shusheel Kumar Shinde Òcan neither escape nor give any reason of ignorance because we know that without the knowledge of the Home Ministry, not even a stone can move.

The release alleges that the arrest of Mr. Qavi is a joint operation of the state police of Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad with supervision of the intelligence bureau. IB has sent a strong signal among Muslim community not to think equal to all as you (Muslims) are second citizens of the country so you have to remain in your limitations. At any moment your civil liberty can be curbed whether it is a common Muslim or a Muslim scholar; it may be in Hyderabad or Delhi.
