Rajasthan court declares IAS officer absconder

Jaipur: A court here Tuesday declared Rajasthan IAS officer B.B. Mohanty an absconder after he went on the run in connection with the rape of a 22-year-old woman.

“He has been absconding since the case was registered against him. The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Raj Kumar declared him an absconder today (Tuesday),” said the woman’s advocate Umesh Choudhary.

A first information report (FIR) was registered Jan 25 against Mohanty, an additional chief secretary rank officer who was posted as chairman of the Rajasthan Civil Services Appellate Tribunal.

The court will now start the procedure of attaching Mohanty’s property, said Choudhary.

The woman said in her complaint that Mohanty introduced himself as a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer last year and exploited her on the promise of helping her clear the IAS examination.

She said the officer sexually exploited her for the first time Feb 19 last year at his flat.
