Hyderabad: Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and K.A. Abbas Centenary Celebrations Committee at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) organized a one day national seminar on “K.A. Abbas: Cinema, Journalism, and Literature” as part of two-day Centenary Celebrations – ‘K.A. Abbas: The Legend, The legacy’ at CPDUMT Auditorium, MANUU, Hyderabad on 27th March 2014. University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Khwaja Mohd. Shahid presided over the seminar while eminent cinema personalities and media critics Sagar Sarhadi, Anjum Rajabali, Shamim Tarique, Shafey Kidwai and Baig Ehsas presented papers on the cinema, journalism and literary genius of K.A. Abbas.
In his presidential speech the varsity’s Pro-VC said that the two day discussions led them to know that K.A. Abbas never compromised on his principles. There was no contradiction what the legend thought and what he did. Abbas Saheb had declared Gandhi Ji as his role model but regretfully society shuns role models in the present times, said Shahid. He told the students to link their every action to human values.
Renowned film director, producer & writer Sagar Sarhadi of Bazar and Chandni fame spoke about his personal connections with K.A. Abbas saying that he never compromised with his thoughts. Anjum Rajabali, famous Screen Play Writer, who has done Rajneeti, Arakshan, Apaharan well spoke on the cinema career of K. A. Abbas citing the economic equality, national unity and social justice persistent in the legend’s work. He described him as ‘Insaan Dost’ and ‘Hindustan Dost’ personality. Mumbai based Shamim Tarique, columnist and film critic, said that K. A. Abbas was a patriot and a great human being which is evident from his films, short stories and columns. Prof. Shafey Kidwai, HoD, Mass Communication, AMU talked about Abbas as a journalist with special reference to Last Page and Azad Qalam. Prof. Baig Ehsas, Former Hod, Urdu, University of Hyderabad presented a well analyzed paper on K.A. Abbas’s novel Inquilab.
Dr. Ehtesham Ahmad khan, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism welcomed the guests, and Assistant Professor Meraj Ahmad Mubarki proposed the vote of thanks while the seminar was convened by PRO I/c and Media Coordinator Dr. Mohammed Faryad.
