Thailand to extradite arms dealer to India

Bangkok : A court here Monday approved the extradition of a Thai businessman wanted in India for his alleged involvement in illegal arms trading.

Wuthikorn Naruanartwanich, 57, was wanted by Interpol on charges of acting as middleman for an international arms trading gang in India, the Bangkok Post reported.

The court ruled in support of extradition as the evidence provided by India’s home ministry and embassy was found legally correct.

Indian authorities have accused him of stockpiling illegal arms and conspiring to bring weapons into India to wage war against the government.

Earlier in August last year, Wuthikorn was arrested by Thai police on charges of buying weapons, including nearly 1,000 rifles and an unspecified number of rocket-propelled grenades.

The arms, worth nearly $2 million, were said to be sold in northeastern India.

According to the news report, Wuthikorn, through his company Sri Siam Co Ltd, had contacted an Indian man identified only as Anthony, a supplier of arms for terrorist groups, via email.
