Interaction on leadership skills at Maryam Ajmal Women College in Hojai

By TwoCircles.net Staff Reporter,

Guwahati: Coinciding with the time when India is getting ready to welcome new leaders to run the country, Maryam Ajmal Women’s College of Science and Technology (MAWCST) at Hojai, about 200 km from state capital Guwahati, organised an interactive session on ‘Leadership Skills’ recently for the benefit of students of the college and their counterparts in other colleges administered by the Ajmal Foundation, one of the leading education NGOs of the North East.

The daylong interactive session consisted of a few film strips, power point presentation, a motivational talk and a dialogue in which the entire membership of Hojai Press Club and journalists from nearby areas such as Daboka and Nilbagan participated in full strength. About 400 faculty and girl students representing MAWCST and Haji Ajmal Ali College, Nilbagan were in the audience. Nurul Islam Laskar, senior journalist and public relations consultant of the region, acted as the principal resource person of the interactive session.

The programme started with the recitation from the Holy Quran rendered by the students of MAWCST. Welcoming the audience, Khasrul Islam, Manager Ajmal Foundation said, “To be successful in today’s competitive arena, mere knowledge of books and success in examination is not enough. Every student has to aspire to be a leader in whatever field she finds herself in post-college life. This is the precise reason for which we have organised this unique programme today and it is only one of the many that would follow in the days to come.” Among the faculty of MAWCST, Tahera Rahman, Bornali Choudhury, Kabita Buragohain and Rehana Akhtara also addressed the gathering.

During the motivational talk, Laskar exhorted the students for studying with ‘passion’ while they were in the college. But once they passed and got out of the college, ‘compassion’ should replace ‘passion’, for it is time to give something back to the parents, the society and the country in return for all the care and patronage received by them during their formative days. He cited the example of Shah Faisal, the Kashmiri youth, who topped the list of MBBS students of his State and thereafter bagged the top position in the IAS 2009 examination – a model life – of passion during studies and compassion to serve the country after studies were over.

In the interactive session with the media persons, the senior journalists viz RK Kejriwal (Pratah Khabar), Kishalaya Goswami (Dainik Agradoot), Ruhul Amin (DY365) and Litumoni Nath (NewsLive) spoke on the topic ‘Role of media in the society’ and shared many memorable experiences of their career with the students. Towards the end, a barrage of questions was thrown by the students and the media persons answered those with great enthusiasm and to the satisfaction of the audience.

Officials of Ajmal Foundation, the NGO that runs 18 colleges across Assam, informed the media that they have plans to organise similar programmes in their remaining colleges in the coming days.
