Aligarh: Muslim Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has welcomed the initiative taken by the Uttar Pradesh government of formulating a new export policy but strongly criticized that Aligarh and its lock industry has been left out of the plan.
“Aligarh is famous all over world for its lock industry. But due to negligence of central and state governments, the Aligarh lock industry is dying. The state government has formulated a new export policy and under that it is developing three export oriented sectors but has failed to include lock industry and Aligarh itself,” said MCCI chairman Razaullah Khan while chairing a meeting of the body.
He pointed out that Aligarh also needs labs for new designs and testing facilities for its lock industry and it should be included in the proposed export industrial policy.
MCCI office bearers demanded that the lock industry of Aligarh should also be extended facilities by the government on the pattern of saree industry of Banaras (Varanasi) and carpet industry of Bhadohi, a release from MCCI said, adding, a resolution was passed unanimously demanding from UP government to establish export sectors at Aligarh too.
