BJP gets permission to hold Amit Shah’s Kolkata rally

Kolkata : After days of dilly-dallying, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the fire brigade Saturday gave the go ahead to BJP president Amit Shah’s rally in the city Sunday.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation sources said the permission for the rally was given during the day after a joint inspection by the two Calcutta High Court appointed special officers – director general of state fire services Sanjoy Mukherjee and KMC joint commissioner (development) S Santra.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) D.P. Singh, fire brigade officials and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders were also present.

State BJP vice president Tathagata Roy said the party has received the no-objection certificate from both the KMC and the fire brigade.

Welcoming the development, Roy said the ruling Trinamool Congress’s “conspiracy” to scuttle the rally stood exposed.

The Calcutta High Court had Friday appointed the two special officers for ensuring compliances of rules for the rally.

Denied permission to hold the rally outside Victoria House, where the Trinamool usually organises its annual martyrs’ day rally, the BJP state unit had moved the bench of Justice Debangshu Basak alleging discrimination by the administration.
