Agra: A 40-year-old property dealer, who was formerly a president of the local unit of Shiv Sena, was shot dead here by unidentified assailants from close range, police said Sunday.
Circle officer Ashok Kumar Singh said that the police were looking for the assailants. At first sight, the shootout that took place Saturday evening, appeared to be the result of some land dispute, Singh said.
Police also said that search operations by several teams continued throughout the night, with the entry and exit points to the city being sealed, but so far no clues have been unearthed.
Eyewitnesses informed the police about the incident. Later on, the police officials took the bleeding man to the medical college hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
The eyewitnesses said that the armed assailants had come on a bike, stopped the victim on the road and fired several rounds.
A couple of days ago, another businessman was shot dead here.
In light of the double murders, businessmen have threatened to stop all trading activities if the criminals are not nabbed at the earliest.
