AGP reminds PM of unfulfilled promises

Guwahati: Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the northeast, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promises he had made during his election rallies.

AGP leadership slams the BJP led government for failing to keep its words on several important issues which includes solving the illegal foreigner’s issue during the last six months after forming the government.

“It’s been six months since the BJP formed government at the centre but the scene in Assam is still grim unlike the party had promised. It’s been frustrating for the people of the state as the BJP has completely neglected the issues of the state and its people. All the issues remained the same,” said AGP president Atul Bora.

AGP said that though the BJP had promised to take immediate action in sending off the illegal Bangladeshi nationals from the state after storming into power so far nothing has been done.

“Not just that, the BJP leaders used to say that they would stop construction of mega dams in the state and also to work against giving land to Bangladesh. But all seems to be futile. We want that the PM takes some action to solve all these serious issues,” Bora said. The party also urged the PM in implementing the Assam Accord.

Peasant’s body Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) also urged the PM so that crucial issues of the state are not communalized and solved immediately.

“We want the central government and PM Modi to give especial attention. We want the National Register of Citizens to be updated at the earliest and to solve the illegal Bangladeshi issue. We also urge the PM so that these issues are not communalized by some sections of the people,” said KMSS president Akhil Gogoi.

All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) also urged the PM for a holistic approach to solve the problems instead of creating communal tension.

“We want the central government to accept the date of identifying illegal citizens as March 25 in 1971 which has been widely accepted in the state. A holistic approach should be in place in solving the issues of the state. Proper investigation should be carried out to nab the terror elements instead of communalizing the issue,” said AAMSU president Abdur Rahim Ahmed.
