Thiruvananthapuram : Congress parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor, who Saturday launched a cleanliness drive near the famed Kovalam beach here, Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for congratulating him for what he did.
Thanking Modi, Tharoor posted on Twitter: “Thank you @narendramodi ji. Here’s a video of my clean-up & a request to you (also coming by letter).”
Modi Saturday retweeted the photos of Tharoor on his twitter handle @narendramodi and also praised him, writing: “A great effort by @ShashiTharoor! His active participation in Swachh Bharat Mission is very encouraging.”
Tharoor posted another tweet Sunday: “My message to fellow citizens & an appeal to @PMOIndia to help clean & revive the Parvathy Puthanar in Tvm.”
Parvathy Puthanar is an artificially created river canal that runs across the capital city, which is also Tharoor’s Lok Sabha constituency.
Over the years, the canal has become polluted and the state government has been spending a lot of money to clean it up.
Tharoor has also asked Modi to provide funds for cleaning up the canal.
Tharoor accepted Modi’s invite to join the “Swachh Bharat” mission, but his party took it as a case of indiscipline and relieved him of the party spokesperson post.
Tharoor Sunday reiterated that the cleanliness drive was first started by Mahatma Gandhi and then followed up by Jawaharlal Nehru.
