New Delhi: Welfare Party of India, in a statement, appreciated and hailed the apex court guidelines on deaths in police encounter for mandatory registration of FIRs and investigation by CID or any other independent agency.
Welfare Party National President Mr.Mujtaba Farooq in a statement said that it gives consolation that finally the apex court of the country has taken the issue seriously. As per National Human Rights Commission there have taken place 444 alleged fake encounters during 2002-08 with most cases reported from UP, Rajasthan, Maharashtra etc whereas during 2009-10 to 2013, 555 such encounters have taken place, most of the cases from UP, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal etc. Human rights organizations and many socio-political organizations have been complaining most of the victims to be Muslims in the name of fighting terrorism or Dalits in the pretext of Maoist hunt.
The WPI statement specifically appreciated the guideline issued by the bench led by Chief Justice R M Lodha that no officer shall be given out of turn promotion or a gallantry award for encounter operations till proved of its genuineness and that the police officer if found guilty of involvement in fake encounter should be proceeded against legally and departmentally. The statement said the party has been making all these demands and has repeated in the election manifesto for 2014 parliament election.
“Though the Supreme Court guidelines cannot bring relief to hundreds of the encounter victims and their relatives, it will help from getting the soil of the nation further wet with blood and tears of innocents,” the statement added.
