Bhopal : A day after a police constable was crushed to death under a sand truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said a special investigation team (SIT) will probe the incident and submit a report in 15 days.
It is being alleged that the truck belonged to the sand mafia.
After presiding over a meeting attended by state home minister Babu Lal Gaur, and senior administrative and police officials, the chief minister on Monday described the death of constable Dharmender Singh Chauhan as “painful”.
He said the SIT will submit its report within 15 days and action would be taken against the people responsible.
The chief minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs.10 lakh for the next of kin of the victim and an additional Rs.one lakh from the martyrs’ fund. He also declared that a member of the deceased policeman’s family would be given a government job.
Meanwhile, state Home Minister Gaur said it was not clear if the death was an incident of murder or not. It would only be ascertained following the investigation of the incident.
Dharmender Singh was killed on Sunday while being on his way with a team in a jeep to arrest an accused in a village for looting. The team noticed a dumper truck carrying illegally mined sand. As the constable got down off the jeep for the truck, the truck driver reversed it at a high speed, crushing the constable to death.
