Scores injured in protesters-CRPF clash
Days after Jammu and Kashmir government’s controversial proposal of a ‘composite township’ to enable return of the Kashmiri pandits to the state, Muhammad Yasin Malik, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) gave a call for protest.
Hundreds of protesters, including Kashmiri Pandits living in Srinagar, led by Malik tried to march towards the commerical hub of Srinagar, Lal Chowk. The protest on Friday turned violent when Malik was detained along with other activists.
The protesters were raising slogans ‘Sang Sang Jiyengee Sang Sang Marenge (Will live together, will die together). Clashes followed in resulting injuries to many protesters. A photo journalist too was injured in the chaos. The agitating youths of Maisuma, popularly known by name Gaza Strip of Srinagar, fought pitched battles with security forces. Forces resorted to lathi charge and tear gas shelling.
