Dhaka : Two Bangladeshis have returned after serving 14 years in prison for illegally trespassing into Indian territory, media reported on Monday.
India’s Border Security Force (BSF) officials handed Sheikh Mijanur Rahman, 40, and Saiful Hawladar, 35, over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Immigration Police on Sunday evening, bdnews24.com reported.
A senior immigration official said they have returned on special passes provided by the Indian government.
They have been put under the custody of Benapole port police.
The official said agents had sent them to India illegally with the lure of better employment.
After they reached India, Delhi Police arrested them and sent them to Tihar jail after their conviction.
At the end of their sentence, officials in India and Bangladesh arranged for their return, he added.
