Imphal: Islamic Research & Dawah Centre (IRDC) organised a three-day seminar on the topic ‘Be a Role Model on Parenting, Teaching & Goal Setting’ to instill Islamic values among the followers of the faith in Manipur.
The seminar, held from April 24 to 26, was inaugurated at the Madrassa Mazharul Uloom at Mayang Imphal Bengoon in Imphal East District. The second day of the seminar was held at the conference hall of Lilong Haoreibi College in Thoubal District. The last day of the seminar was organised at the conference hall of D M College of Commerce at Imphal.
Giving the key-note address, Mohammad Siraj, an official of IRDC, Manipur, said the aim of the Centre is to instill Islamic values among the followers of the faith, to bring peace in our society and to promote Islam through publication of literatures, seminars, workshop, seminars, lectures, etc.
Israr Sayed, CEO, Burooj Angels, Mumbai; Faisal Sultan, academic trainer, Burooj, Mumbai; Muhammed Umar Gautam, chairman, IDC, Delhi and Abdul Malik Qasmi, director, IHS, Delhi were the guest speakers at the seminar.
The speakers spoke on Parenting, Teaching & Goal Setting and deliberated on the aim and scope of Islamic education taking appropriate references to the teachings in the Quran, Hadith and Islamic traditions.
According to Sultan, the purpose of Islamic education is to produce good human beings. To achieve this goal, a unified and concerted effort is needed, he added.
Muslim educators, practitioners and families must increase and unify their efforts to find creative solutions that will effectively bridge the gap between values and practice in the upcoming generation of Muslim youth, he added.
Sultan also deliberated on the methods of effective teaching and learning. According to him, the vision of an effective Islamic education makes an important distinction between teaching about Islam and teaching about being Muslims.
Goals of Islamic education, he expressed, is not to fill children’s minds with information about Islam, but rather to teach them what it really means to be Muslims.
According to this view, effective Islamic teaching and learning must have the power to inspire and transform students in the process of tarbiyyah, Sultan added.
Large number of Muslim parents, religious scholars and students of madrasas, schools and colleges attended the lectures.
