Ghaziabad : Lawyers under the leadership of bar association president Ram Autar Gupta staged a dharna and shouted slogans against the state government at the collectorate Saturday. This led to the closure of the government treasury.
In a government treasury, non-judicial stamp papers are sold to lawyers and deed writers for executing sale deeds of properties.
“Today’s dharna and shutting down of the treasury is a part of the ongoing agitation for the establishment of the high court bench in western Uttar Pradesh. Earlier the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court had transferred the cases of Meerut, Agra and Ghaziabad to Moradabad, Etawah and Kanpur. It is a measure to suppress the agitation, but the lawyers are not afraid of such steps hence the central struggle committee has asked the bar associations of 22 districts to continue the agitation. Due to this, the Ghaziabad bar association has staged this dharna Saturday,” said the bar association president.
“Although the lawyers agitation for the High Court bench in Western Uttar Pradesh is a 34-year-old demand, but this time the lawyers have determined not to bow down before any trick, so the agitation has been intensified in all the 22 districts of western Uttar Pradesh,” said Gupta.
The bar associations in all the 22 districts of western Uttar Pradesh have given the call to boycott the courts hence there is a complete halt in court proceedings in western UP.
