Islamabad: Pakistan Wednesday summoned India’s deputy high commissioner and lodged a protest over the killing of two Pakistani troopers along the Line of Control (LoC).
The Pakistani foreign ministry said two paramilitary personnel were injured in Indian firing along the working boundary that divides the two countries in Jammu and Kashmir. The two troopers later succumbed to their wounds, Xinhua reported.
The Indian diplomat was summoned to the foreign affairs ministry “to lodge a strong protest on the unprovoked firing of the Indian troops in the Zafarwal Sector, resulting in the shahadat (martyrdom) of two personnel of Pakistani Rangers”, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The statement said Pakistan “condemned” the action of India’s Border Security Force, which it said was “in violation of the commitment by both sides to maintain ceasefire along the Line of Control”.
The ministry urged India to investigate the incident, “bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure maintenance of peace and tranquillity” along the LoC.
Pakistan and India had signed a ceasefire agreement in 2003.
