Kozhikode: The intellectual contributions, extended by the Muslim scholars, were not provided with the due consideration, experts at the international seminar on ‘The History of Islamic Medical Science and Development of the Modern Medical Science’ held here opined.
“It was the Arab intellectuals and Muslim scholars, who brought basic changes and far fledged researches in astronomy, medical science, geography, agriculture and mathematics. The Arab scholars contributed well to the development of the world from the decline of the Roman and Persian empires till to the emergence of the Western powers,” IUML national secretary E T Mohammed Basheer MP said while inaugurating the seminar.

The seminar, held at the University of Calicut on Friday, was jointly organised by the Arabic Department of the Calicut University; International Institute of Islamic Medicine; Hyderabad-based Muslim Educational Social and Cultural Organisation and Muslim Educational Society’s (MES) state committee.
“As the European-oriented knowledge started spread about, the contributions of Arabs and Muslim scholars were concealed,” Basheer pointed out and laid the stress on the need to initiate fresh efforts to research and unveil the contributions of the Muslim scholars. “The efforts should be taken up to keep the productivity and sanctity of the knowledge intact.”
“Knowledge should be used for the development of the humanity. The moral conscious can be acquired only through belief and culture,” he added.
Dr Husain Nagamia of International Institute of Islamic Medicine delivered the key note address. Dr Fakhrudheen Mohammed presided over the event. Doctor Mujeeb Rahman, Dr Thajudheen, Dr Razaq and Dr Moitheen Kutty also attended the seminar.
