Mumbai: Sensing the growing intolerance towards the community and to maintain the stance of secularism of the community Maulana Arshad Madni, the President of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind has advised Muslim community to celebrate events like Independence Day and Republic Day in a big and grand manner so that Muslims are not branded as ‘terrorists, separatists, oppressors and aggressors by a section of communal forces.
Madni, a top religious leader and scholar of the Muslim community was speaking last week to newspersons at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh ahead of the national integration conference at Lakdawaala Compound in Kurla West organised by the Jamiat-e-Ulema-Maharashtra, which was attended by clergymen and scholars of all communities.
He enjoys good following amongst the community across the country.
“Communal forces are trying to distort the great services rendered by our elders towards achievement and consolidation of Independence of our country. These forces keep accusing us of being terrorists, separatists, oppressors and aggressors. But Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind will not let their nefarious designs succeed. Therefore, on 26th January, which is our Republic Day, organize the celebrations of this day with full pomp and splendor and explain with clarity to the whole Nation what great sacrifices your elders had rendered for the country,” he said.
“This country is a democratic country and will always remain so and it will be sheer misfortune of the whole country if an attempt is made to deviate from the path of Secularism. The results of such deviation will be disastrous,” he said amidst thunderous applause.
Mincing no words, he told the huge gathering of Muslims: “This is your country; you have an equal status with others according to the Law and the Constitution. Some powers have sowed the poisonous seed of communalism and momentarily are enjoying the harvest but India’s nature is against communalism. Therefore, get ready and do your best for the development, progress, success and victory of your country with absolute self-confidence and resolve.”
Maulana Madni pointed out that the business and profession which our Hindu brothers are practicing is practiced by us Muslims too. There is complete similarity between us with regard to our motherland. The Englishmen, in an attempt to consolidate their power and in accordance with their divide and rule policy, engineered religious riots and tried to create a gulf in the society. The senior members of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind foresaw the intentions of the British and always fought against them.
Maulana Haleemullah Qasmi, General Secretary, Jamiat-e-Ulema-Maharashtra, said that the ocean of humanity before us is an evidence of the fact that the sentiments of mutual brotherhood, sympathy and sharing the grief of each other are not dead in our country.
“Though some politicians have obscured these pure and sacred relationships, we are hopeful that our religious leaders who are present on the stage and thousands of other leaders who are sincerely spreading the message of Love and Tranquility in each and every nook and corner of the country, will clear the dust cast upon the Human Relationship”, he said.
Qasmi said Islam means helping each other and feeling of goodwill, good behaviour with neighbours, looking after the downtrodden, oppressed, poorest of the poor, aged and widows of our society and good deeds not only towards every distressed human being but also with all the living beings, without any distinction of religion, caste or creed, this is the basic teaching of Islam and Jamiat-e-Ulema-Maharashtra is active in making this teaching common.
The leader of Jain community Acharya Hemchandra Suri Maharaj said that all the human beings living on the land of India are brothers to each other and no religion teaches anyone to fight and quarrel with anyone.
The representative of Sikh religion Satyanam Das said the followers of different religions and faiths are like colorful flowers of a bouquet and plucking any one flower will destroy the beauty of the bouquet.
Bishop Dominic Fernandes said that, all religion teaches for the brotherhood but the political leaders are misguiding the people and encouraging hatred among them.
