Pune: Sambhaji Brigade, an extremist organisation and proponent of Maratha reservation and Shiv-dharma, has received an anonymous packet containing explosives here.
The packet was received at Jijayi Prakashan’s office, Narayan Peth Pune on Saturday, July 11, 2015. “The packet contained chemical powder, gelatine, an aluminum rod and cuttings of a right-wing extremist newspaper ‘Sanatan Prabhat’,” Shantaram Kunir, working president of Sambhaji Brigade, said.
Elaborating about the possible reasons behind Sambhaji Brigade receiving the packet; Kunir alleged:
“Sanatan Prabhat is caste biased and communal newspaper. We at Sambhaji Brigade opposed Maharashtra government’s award given to historian Babasaheb Purandare, as Purandare had tried to portray Shivaji as a Hindu king and not as a secular one. We have planned a series of talks to spread awareness about this aspect. For the talks, we have invited all progressive organisations to participate.”
The newspaper cutting of the Satanat Prabhat had names of Shrimant Kokate, speaker, Jitendra Awad, NCP leader and Nikhil Wagle, senior journalist, Kunir said adding, “These names were crossed by red ink as these personalities have also been invited by us for the talks.”
Sambhaji Brigade has lodged a complaint at the Vishram Bagh police station on July 12, 2015. Stating that “we are not scared of such threats”, Kunir further demanded a ban on the extremist newspapers such as ‘Sanatan Prabhat.’
