Houston, Texas: The Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations is all set for its 14th annual convention on the theme of “Advancing Educational Opportunities for Women” to be held in Houston, Texas from June 12th to 14th.

This year’s convention will be addressed by eminent personalities including Brig. (Retd.) Syed Ahmad Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and Padma Shri Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities in India.

AMU Vice Chancellor Zameer Uddin Shah had attended the 12th Annual Convention in 2013.

The three-day event will include a series of highly focused sessions on educational and community building projects. The convention will provide a forum for AMU Alumni and well-wishers to get firsthand information on the progress of ongoing projects undertaken by various alumni associations in North America and Vision 2020 of AMU Vice Chancellor to make AMU a center of educational excellence in India.

The Saturday evening session consists of keynote addresses by Brig. (Retd.) Syed Ahmad Ali, Hon. P. Harish, Consul General of India in Houston and Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, cultural program, and recognition award presentation at the banquet dinner, which is the highlight of the convention. Acclaimed Ghazal singer Monidipa Sharma would provide entertainment after the Banquet dinner.

“There is overwhelming enthusiasm for the convention among the Aligarh Alumni and well-wishers of AMU,” said Prof. Habib Zuberi, Chair of Board of Trustees of the Federation. Dr. Saif Sheikh, the President of the Federation said that the reason so many Aligarh alumni gravitate towards the annual Convention is that they want to reconnect with their fellow alumni, remember the best time of their student life and debate on issues and means to help their alma mater. Mr. Perwaiz Jafri, Chairman of the organizing committee and President-elect of the Federation reminded the delegates to pre-register for the convention especially for Saturday night banquet dinner, as the tickets will likely be sold out.
